Warm-up & inbox testing
Run a small inbox placement test with a free results sheet
Compare the same message across inboxes you control and record exactly what the test can tell you.
You can learn from a small inbox test without buying a seed-list service. Send the same realistic message to a few mailboxes your team controls, then record the result. The test is a diagnostic sample; it is not a forecast of every customer's inbox.
Choose a message you actually use: a booking confirmation, a quote or a newsletter. A blank email saying test proves little about a designed campaign with images and links. Use synthetic customer details so the test does not expose a real order.
Run one controlled comparison
- 1
Choose your sample
Use existing test accounts at recipient providers that matter to your customers. If most customers use Microsoft 365, do not test only a personal Gmail address. Note forwarding rules and filters that could change the result.
- 2
Send through the real route
Use the intended Venmail sender and the same template path you plan to use in production. Send separately to each test account. Record the time and subject so you do not confuse a new test with an earlier one.
- 3
Inspect before interacting
Record inbox, spam, another folder or not found before opening, moving or replying. Save authentication results and any bounce explanation. If the mailbox has a rule for your sender, record that too.
- 4
Retest one change
Change one suspected cause, such as a broken link or sender mismatch. Repeat with a new subject marker. If you change the domain, template and audience together, you cannot tell which change mattered.
| Field | Sample value |
|---|---|
| Test and sender | Booking-v2; bookings@example.com |
| Recipient provider | Team-controlled Outlook mailbox |
| Result before interaction | Junk folder, received at 10:04 UTC |
| Authentication | Record actual SPF, DKIM and DMARC results |
| Changed since last test | Updated the reply address only |
If a message is not found, check whether the sender received a delay or rejection before classifying it as spam. If all samples pass, keep monitoring real customer reports. A small test can find a visible failure; it cannot prove that no other failure exists.
